When fall hit here in Seattle I immediately began re-organizing my closet (goodbye swimsuits and summer dresses) and planning some shopping trips to stock up on some fall favorites. The trends of fall are some of my favorites to date: berry tones, leather, suede and my new favorite: velvet.
I started splurging on velvet items last winter and couldn't wait to score a few more items to showcase my favorite fall trend, this year. During this year's Anniversary Sale at Nordstrom, the first item to go into my cart was this yellow velvet pleated skirt. The color, shine, style and length was calling my name and I knew it would be the perfect statement piece for fall. Not to mention, it was less than $100 so that was a huge win in my book! This skirt is no longer sold at Nordstrom, but I found a lookalike at Nordstrom Rack (only a few sizes left) in both black and yellow.
I've been having so much fun dressing up this skirt for work and special occasions and I plan on also experimenting with ways to dress it down as I make it more of a transitional wardrobe piece.
One of my favorite ways to wear this skirt is incorporating a few of my other fall favorites: leather, silk and statement jewelry. During Anniversary Sale I also managed to score this Blank NYC leather jacket for a steal. It's now full price on Nordstrom.com but it's honestly worth the $98! The fit is true to size and it's one of my most versatile pieces I own. The gold accents add a little pop of metallic and the overall style of this moto jacket is perfect for dressing up or down. I paired my leather jacket over the top of a silk lace camisole tucked into my skirt, this camisole is also an Anniversay Sale find (I went a little crazy this year!) Silk is such a fun fabric to style - it's sleek and honestly feels like you're wearing pajamas, but in a more elegant way. This camisole is no longer sold at Nordstrom.com but other silk camisoles are online and in store for you to shop!
Accessories really make a look. I'm wearing my Halogen studded black leather flats (also Anniversary Sale) that are my new favorite flats to wear. I'd been on the hunt for black flats for fall, they are just such a classic! When I found this studded pair on sale, I was sold! They compliment my leather jacket in this outfit and also are a great go-to when I'm not feeling heels but still want to appear more dressed up.
My Nordstrom black leather tote bag from years ago is one I dug out of from the back of my closet, dusted off and have been using non-stop for work and play! It fits everything I need: my laptop, ipad, makeup bag, wallet, keys, water bottle, camera - I'm not lying, I've hauled it all. The best part about this bag is it can be worn as a crossbody with the straps or you can just carry it by the handles -totally up to your personal preference! The gold accents of the zipper also happen to compliment my metallic gold details on my leather jacket quite nicely.
Now let's talk jewelry. As you probably already know, I really can't get enough of statement necklaces. This J. Crew necklace was one I found on sale while shopping in Colorado with my mom! It's the perfect amount of sparkle to my look and is one I love wearing over the top of sweaters, paired with a camisole or a dress. Additional dainty accents are also a go-to in an outfit like this: a thin gold cuff and thin gold rings are a few items I love to throw into a look without dominating the main statement piece.
Who else loves velvet? Talk to velvet to me! I'd love to hear how you plan on styling your favorite velvet pieces this fall! Velvet is one trend I just can't get enough of and plan on sharing more of here on West Coast Aesthetic.
