Bold patterns that make a statement are one of my favorite ways to liven up my outfits especially during the spring and summer when pattern play is even more on trend.

When I spotted these striped ZARA trousers with the frontal waist tie I immediately started picturing how I wanted to style these pants for spring. Yes, they're monochrome (big surprise) but that's one of the reasons I love them -- they go with everything. The stripes are more on the narrow side and are vertical down the pant legs which I think helps elongate me no matter how I style them. They're also extremely versatile for day and evening looks, I also receive tons of compliments when I wear them to work.

So, the question is, how does one go about styling a bold pattern like stripes? Here's an outfit breakdown of one of my favorite ways to style my striped pants in this look.

I wanted to keep my outfit fairly monochromatic so I stuck with a black color palette. I enjoy layering patterns and bold graphics together so I selected a Top Knot Goods basic t-shirt I was gifted for my birthday with strong, fun and sassy typography on the front. To show off the tied waistline, I tucked in the front of the t-shirt to my pants. I have been doing the front t-shirt tuck for the last few months when I'm wearing denim or statement pants I want to show off -- it's an easy, subtle trick worth trying!

I wanted my accessories to do the talking in this look so I decided to wear my favorite bold 7 Charming Sisters statement necklace with yellow and metallic floral detailing. One can never go wrong with a statement necklace especially one that adds some color to compliment the neutrals in a look. Statement necklaces and sassy t-shirts are by far one of my favorite combinations for spring and summer!

Heels were my shoes of choice in this outfit to help dress my look up. These pants hit right before the ankles so any shoes really work -- flats, sneakers, heels, ankle boots. My Halogen black studded heels help transform my outfit into a date-night ready look or one that is office appropriate.

Another accessory I lately can't go anywhere without is my new Neighborhood Boutique Kate Backpack. I have a tendency to put way too many items in my purse resulting in sore shoulders and back issues (just ask my boyfriend Tristan who has become my own personal masseuse the last two years!) This backpack is the perfect solution to distributing weight evenly and in a stylish way. It's also very roomy! It can hold my 15" laptop, water bottle, planner, wallet and makeup bag nicely. It also has zippers and pockets inside to hold keys and a cell phone. It's my favorite work and weekday bag holding all of my essentials!

Styling a bold print should be fun! Play up the other graphic-heavy pieces in your closet and experiment with mixing and matching. If you're more of a black and white type of girl like me, that's fine! You can still be bold in a neutral color palette as seen in this look!
